What is homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a safe, effective alternative to conventional medicine. It heals “from the inside out”, without side-effects and with no possibility of dependency.
Homeopathic remedies work by enhancing the body’s healing mechanism (the immune system) stimulating it to overcome disease and create a higher level of health.
How does it work?
The basis of homeopathy is the Law of Similars: a disease can be cured by a medicine which produces the symptoms of the disease in healthy people. For instance – coffee in its homeopathic form can be used to treat sleeplessness, and a homeopathic remedy made from onions often helps people with hayfever where the symptoms are like those caused by chopping onions.
The job of the homeopath is to illicit all the important symptoms the patient is experiencing and choose a remedy which matches this symptom picture, according to the homeopathic Law of Similars.
Who can be treated by homeopathy?
Homeopathy can be used to treat people of any age.
What problems can be treated by homeopathy?
Homeopathy can be effective in treating many physical and emotional problems. For example, some of the conditions we see frequently are:
What does treatment involve?
Your first appointment will last about an hour and a half. A full case history will be taken including your personal and family medical history. Your symptoms will be discussed in detail, and other aspects of your life looked at in order to choose a course of treatment which will enable you to achieve a better level of health. You will be given a remedy, usually in the form of tablets, with instructions as to how and when to take them.
Your second and subsequent appointments are made at intervals of between one to four weeks initially and then less frequently as your level of health improves.
How long does treatment take?
As a general rule, a problem that has been around for many years will take longer to treat than a more recent one. However, since homeopathy is always a process of healing a person rather than just their symptoms, the time taken will also depend on individual sensitivity to treatment.
Some people, once they have recovered from the problems that led them to seek homeopathic treatment, have a “top up” session every two to three months in order to maintain good health.
