                                 Practice Principal Carew Osteopathic Clinic

"Hello and welcome to my clinic where I am proud to introduce you to our dedicated therapists who together are committed to your optimal health.

Working in this field since 1984 I became passionate about optimal and integrated health care and recognised a real need in the community for this approach. It was this vision that prompted me to open the Carew Osteopathic Clinic over 10 years ago.

Initially in my career I  trained in sports nutrition, sports injury rehabilitation and motivational coaching working in a  Harley Street clinic. I then travelled to Asia and Australia treating and coaching international athlete's before returning to the UK where I graduated  as an Osteopath on the 5 year programme at the London School of Osteopathy.

Directly after graduating I began my MSc studying Clinical Ergonomics at Nottingham University and then Western Medical Acupuncture with The British Medical Acupuncture Society.I gained valuable insight in this discipline observing Doctors practicing acupuncture on several trips to Hong Kong and to Shanghai, China. During this period I was the clinical supervisor and theme leader for clinical studies at the  LSO outpatients clinic.

I am currently enrolled on the Hertfordshire university MSc in western medical acupuncture and also on the University of Surrey MSc in Nutritional Medicine having previously obtained a Diploma In Nutrition and Diet graduating with distinction.

Dramatic and significant advances have been made in pharmacy and surgery and much can be done to alleviate gross pathology and disease by Doctors and Surgeons specialising in these areas. The benefit's of such interventions are unquestionable.

Many people  however, live a life of mediocre health; chronic nagging ailments that limit our daily experiences and promote a feeling of dis-empowerment and for some a quite desperation.

With regard to spinal pain for example most cases are not suitable for surgery and are only temporarily relieved with drugs. It is here that Osteopathic treatment is most suited, in the space between sub optimal and optimal health.

I  believe that a shift toward optimal health and away from poor health is available to all and achieved by managing nutrition ,proactive rehabilitation and exercise with a positive mental attitude.

In December 2010 I broke my right leg in a winter sports activity.

Using Osteopathic principles for healing and rehabilitation I was able to complete the Sevenoaks triathlon just 7 weeks after the cast was removed and then completed UK Ironman 70.3 nine weeks later (1.2 mile open water swim, 56 mile cycle and 13 mile run).

In September 2011 I then completed the long course triathlon, Challenge Henley , a 2.4 mile, open water swim; 112 mile bike race ,followed by a marathon .

In total from the cast being removed to completing the long course triathlon took just 7 months!

I attribute this speedy recovery to the consistant application of osteopathic principles to the condition.

I have lecturered at the LSO for the last 15 years and currently tutor the 4th year cohort studying the  Masters Degree in Osteopathy at the London School.

It is recommended by the National Institute for health care and clinical excellence( NICE)  to the NHS to provide a combination of manual therapy, acupuncture and exercise rehabilitation and this is exactly the protocol that we follow at the Carew Osteopathic Clinic.

My personal interests include all family pastimes involving my wife and two boys age 11 and 7 . I am keen on anthropology ,ancient history and architecture and spend the summer months competing and racing age group Triathlon.

I am currently in the process of writing a  book  on the principles of optimal health and wellbeing  and am looking forward to its completion in the near future.

When you wish to make significant changes to your health I look forward to hearing from you."

my very best wishes,

Anthony Carew.
